Labuan Bajo Trip (Komodo Islands): Chasing Sunrise at Gili Lawa

Setelah Padar, tujuan hiking berikutnya adalah Gili Lawa.
Wah, ini lebih epic lagi ceritanya.

After Padar, our next hiking destination was Gili Lawa.
Oh, this is even a more epic story, hahaha.

At first, we planned to hike for sunset. So, climbing Padar in the morning, playing around at Taka Makassar in the afternoon, and Gili Lawa for sunset. But we got there too late. The current when we were heading to Gili Lawa was crazy. I even slid from my sun chair and everything that was on my room's table poured to the floor. My stomach was very sick. Even when we arrived there, we decided to sail back a bit further, so we could dock peacefully.

Pokoknya tidur aja.

Eh, pagi-paginya jam setengah 5 pagi, aku denger mesin kapal mulai nyala lagi. Dengan panik, aku bangun dan siap-siap. Kalaupun nggak jadi pergi, tinggal tidur lagi - dan memang lebih pengen tidur sih sebenernya, hahaha.
Jam 5 terdengar bunyi jangkar turun dan pintu kamar diketuk...
Jadi manjat. OH NO.

It was the first time I experienced sea sick so bad like that. After having dinner, I took a medicine and decided laying on my bed without knowing tomorrow's plan and what time I should wake up. I even said to my roommate that I wouldn't be going to Gili Lawa. Sleep was my priority.

At 4.30am, I heard the ship engine was started. I got up with panic and prepared my self. I thought, if they decided not to hike (yes, please. don't hike), then I would just go back to sleep.
At 5am, I heard the sound of the anchor someone knocked on my door...
We were going to hike. OH NO.

There are two different hills to hike, for sunset and sunrise. The sunset hill is not as steep and more easily to climb (sorry, forgot to take the photo). After conquering Padar, this one looked like a piece of cake.
I, then, took a look from the deck for the sunrise hill... Holly, *%@^*#*&@#^#&*!
Even when we already departed with the boat, I wanted to cry, jumped and swam back to the ship. Actually, it's shorter than Padar. But it is really steep. For you who had climbed mountains, this was nothing. But for me, it was crazy. Not to mention I just hiked Padar the previous day.

Luckily, I stole some breads from the kitchen, so at least I got some energy to hike. When I started to hike, I never stopped praying. Gili Lawa's ground is not as slippery as Padar's, so for me it is safer to step on. But to climb it? CRAZY. I once looked down, my head got dizzy. I felt like something pulled me to fall down. Falling down that cliff is not funny at all. I couldn't look up too, since I felt like the top of the hill was not getting closer even once. I had no choice but to keep climbing slowly.

Begitu sampai atas, rasanya nggak percaya sama diriku sendiri. Aku terus bertanya-tanya dalam hati, beneran nih? Sampai nih? Epic. Poetic.

When I reached the top, I still couldn't believe myself for making it. I kept asking myself if it was real; if I really made it. I almost cried looking the golden lights from the sky and the yellow grasses swayed slowly as the wind blew. Epic. Poetic.

Pulangnya kita ambil jalur yang landai. Santai banget jalannya, sambil foto-foto. Enak deh pokoknya.

On the return trip, we took the easier route. We walked slowly while taking pictures. Every inch of the hill is really instagrammable. And the weather is cooler than Padar, so we really enjoyed the walk.
